This peaty single malt whisky is part of the five-part product line of the Tobermory distillery, founded in 1798 and located on a quiet bay on the Scottish Hebridean island of Mull. The significant date, which stands for experience, tradition and consistency, is engraved on each bottle, along with the equally distinctive origin. A detailed look at the distillery's 200-year history reveals that it has been affected by several temporary closures, renaming and changes of ownership. Nevertheless, today's operators hold on to the artisan distilling of yesteryear and spare no effort and trouble to create a high quality product. The Ledaig series differs in its robust smokiness from the fruity Tobermory series, which is also produced here. The Ledaig 18 years was stored in barrels of high quality oak wood and received its finishing in Spanish sherry barrels. The resulting spirit shines in a coppery golden tone; on the palate fruity and smoky notes meet sherry and seaweed. For the limited edition, produced in small batches, the Tobermory team took its cue from the origins of hybrid single malt whiskies.
